Broadbeach & Southern Beaches - Surfers Paradise - Gold Coast Accommodationhome| travel resources | special accommodation needsBooking online is possibly not be the best option for travellers with special accommodation needs, and a quick phone call to the resort is recommended. However, the internet is still a great source of information. We hope you find this page about young kids, special accommodation needs and wheelchair access in general to be useful.
Most resorts that offer baby sitting use an external agency. It's reasonable to think that they have established a certain relationship with the agency, but it is probably a good idea to make sure. Some resorts advertise a Kids Club - which is usually for the 5 - 12 age group. Gold Coast properties in this category include BreakFree Paradise Island, Sea World Resort, Radisson Resort, Australis Sovereign, Holiday Inn and Hotel Watermark. Organised activities and care for the very young are harder to come by. Paradise Resort in Surfers Paradise has a junior creche (0-5 yrs), Crowne Plaza Kids Club caters for 4 year olds, and the 5 star Surfers Marriott Kids Club is for 2 - 14 year olds.
Some resorts offer one or more rooms providing wheelchair access with assistance. This has usually been assessed by AAA Tourism, the body managing Australian STAR Rating Scheme which provides ratings for 11, 000 properties. Local resorts with wheelchair access (to the best of our knowledge) include Conrad Jupiters Hotel (Broadbeach), BreakFree Savannah (Broadbeach), Outrigger Resort (Burleigh Heads), Bilinga Beach Resort (Bilinga) and O'Reilly's Rainforest Guesthouse (Lamington National Park). Surfers Paradise resorts with wheelchair access (to the best of our knowledge) include Voyager Resort, Teneriffe, Legends Hotel, Shangri-la, Hotel Watermark, Sea World Resort (fair access only), Mercure Resort, Paradise Resort, Crowne Plaza and the Courtyard by Marriott. Many 5 star resorts such as the Sheraton Mirage, Gold Coast International, Hyatt Regency, and Royal Pines provide good access.
The Gold Coast is serviced by Surfside Buslines. Many of Surfside's main bus routes have services that are wheelchair accessible. Routes that offer accessible services include: Route 1 - Paradise Point via Runaway Bay, Southport, Surfers Paradise,
Pacific Fair, Burleigh Heads, Palm Beach to Tweed Heads. (Approximately
90% of buses are wheelchair accessible). Other accessible services are listed on the Gold Coast City Service website (refer below).
