Broadbeach & Southern Beaches - Surfers - Gold Coast Hinterland Accommodationhome | gold coast hinterland accommodation | about the hinterland | travel resourcesThe Gold Coast Hinterland is made up of the spectacular McPherson Range which offers some truly amazing scenery. The Nerang township is the gateway to the Gold Coast Hinterland's many
farm stay resorts and the region's world heritage listed national parks
and nature reserves.
There are many places where you can stay overnight, including camping grounds, lodges and guesthouses. The atmosphere is beautiful and very relaxing. Cafes and restaurants offer delicious snacks and meals, and several unique art and craft galleries.
The two main towns as you enter the Gold Coast Hinterland are Nerang (just west of Southport) and Mudgeeraba which is a bit further south. Nerang has been a place of meeting for 100 years and the river is an integral part of the cotton, dairy, sugar and timber industries within the Gold Coast Hinterland. Once a rail head for farmers and timber workers, Nerang is still a transport and administration hub with a major rail link and Council offices. Gradually Nerang’s key role was usurped by Southport. More recently, Nerang has become a popular hinterland residential area. Golf courses are within easy access, and there are hotels, motels and convention facilities. Mudgeeraba which is also a country town, is known for its farmer’s produce market on the second and fourth Saturday of the month, Mudgeeraba has a long connection with primary industries.
Only 30 minutes from the central Gold Coast beaches, Tamborine National Park is Queensland’s first national park reserve. Its gardens, nurseries and scenery are a favourite for tourists. This area has spectacular waterfalls, great views and walking tracks. Nature is only part of Tamborine’s charm. The village shops offer gifts, craft and art. The markets are a plenty with fresh produce. The floral floral festival in September is an annual event. The main areas to visit in the park are Joalah, Cedar Creek, The Knoll, MacDonald Park, Palm Grove and Witches Falls. All these places have picnic facilities and walking tracks, and most also have information centres. Settlement in the area is centered on the Villages of Eagle Heights, North Tamborine and Mount Tamborine. Tamborine Mountain offers a variety of accommodation, including Woodleigh Homestead B&B and Cedar Creek Lodges. Lamington National ParkLamington National Park is a natural treasure which was officially listed as a World Heritage Area in 1994. In Lamington National Park - located west of Springbrook and only 56km from Surfers Paradise - you will find highly vegetated areas and subtropical rain forest. There are gorges, caves, spectacular views, waterfalls, pools and a large assortment of bird life. The region supports more frog, snake, bird and marsupial species than any other area in Australia. The park is covered by a series of clearly marked walks. Some are short
and others are steep and take up to six hours to complete. One long walk,
which usually cannot be completed in one day, links Binna Burra to O'Reilly's
Rainforest Retreat.
Springbrook is a unique area that offers a diversity of things to see and do by day and night. Some must see aspects of Springbrook include the giant Purling Brook Falls, the famous Natural Bridge with a dramatic waterfall and cave pool, some of the 100 bird species, the delicate glow-worms, and the aptly named "Best of All Lookouts" with views across the NSW border.
The Gold Coast Hinterland Wine Country is the fastest-growing wine region in Queensland, and the high quality wines found in this area are rapidly making a name for themselves. Encompassing the cooler climate of Mt Tamborine through to the milder climates of Albert River, Canungra and Clagiraba Valleys, the region allows a diverse range of grape varieties to be grown. These include Verdelho, Chambourcin and Semillon as well as Merlot, Cabernets Franc and Sauvignon, Shiraz, Chardonnay, and Viognier. Many of the wineries offer superb restaurants, cheese tasting, gourmet picnics, as well as winery and vineyard tours. Visitors to the region's vineyards and wineries can choose to join a tour, charter a coach or leisurely self-drive. Whether it is a family day trip, a day out for a social club, or a romantic getaway, the Gold Coast Hinterland Wine Country offers a wine experience for everyone. Daily tours of the wineries are available from both the Gold Coast and Brisbane. |
